The headlines feel chaotic — troops deployed in U.S. cities, tariffs rising overnight, new “emergencies” declared with the stroke of a pen. It all feels out of control, but none of this happened by accident.

All this chaos is possible because ‘national emergency’ has become the magic words to create a dictatorship.

Under current law, the President can trigger more than a hundred special powers with a single declaration — and keep them indefinitely. Those powers include raising tariffs, freezing assets, seizing communications, and even deploying the National Guard without state consent. Congress never approved any of this. It simply never reclaimed the authority it surrendered decades ago.

That’s how we got here — with a President who believes he’s above the law, sending troops from Texas to occupy Chicago, threatening to rewrite trade policy overnight, and calling every problem an “emergency.”

The Article One Act would stop this drift toward one-man rule. It would require Congress to approve any national emergency after 30 days — forcing debate, transparency, and accountability. No more endless “emergencies” that outlive the crises they were meant to address. No more governing by decree.

This isn’t partisan. It’s constitutional. The Founders gave Congress the power to make laws and the President the power to enforce them — not to blur the two whenever it’s convenient.

If we want to keep living in a democracy where laws are debated, not declared, the Article One Act is the line we have to draw.
