Today, Northwest Valley Indivisible stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Senator Mark Kelly at a press conference hosted at the IBEW Lodge in Phoenix, where Kelly brought concerned constituents together to denounce the devastating consequences of H.R.1—a bill that slashes funding for essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP in order to finance tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
“We’re proud to stand with Senator Kelly against this cruel legislation,” said Brent Peak, co-chair of Northwest Valley Indivisible. “You don’t balance the budget on the backs of hungry kids and struggling families just to hand billionaires another break.”
The event featured heartfelt stories from parents, community leaders, educators, and service providers who made clear what’s at stake: real lives, real services, and entire communities—especially in rural Arizona, where even small cuts in Medicaid funding can devastate access to healthcare and disability services.
Organizations that rely on partial Medicaid funding warned that H.R.1 would force dramatic reductions in staff, services, or entire programs—harming the most vulnerable Arizonans.
Northwest Valley Indivisible was visibly present among the crowd of supporters flanking Senator Kelly. The group applauds his ongoing efforts to protect working families and opposes the GOP-backed H.R.1 bill as a morally bankrupt assault on the public good.
“This is a theft from those with the least to reward those with the most,” said Peak. “We will not ‘get over it,’ and we won’t be silent about it.”
Northwest Valley Indivisible will continue organizing, protesting, and raising awareness about the effects of this bill. The group calls on Rep. Abe Hamadeh, who voted in favor of H.R.1, to publicly explain why he supports defunding services his constituents rely on.
