Phoenix, AZ — Northwest Valley Indivisible (NWVI) condemns the conduct of Abe Hamadeh following his participation in a political event that combined mockery of national sovereignty, explicit language of territorial conquest, and association with a group reported to have ties to neo-Nazi and white supremacist figures.
At the event, Rep. Hamadeh was recorded cutting a cake that depicted Greenland as part of the United States flag. Greenland is not U.S. territory; it is an autonomous nation within the Kingdom of Denmark. International law and democratic norms recognize national sovereignty and self-determination as foundational principles, not props for political theater.
Audio from the event captures Rep. Hamadeh stating, “the south is easier to take,” as he cuts into the portion of the cake representing southern Greenland. Immediately afterward, an unidentified off-camera voice is heard saying, “get rid of Macron,” referring to Emmanuel Macron, the democratically elected president of France. The off-camera remark is not attributed to Rep. Hamadeh.
Multiple media outlets have reported that the event was hosted by Republicans for National Renewal (RNR). RNR has been reported by journalists and extremism watchdogs to have ties to neo-Nazi and white supremacist figures.
“Taken together, this is not satire or symbolism—it is contempt,” said Brent Peak, co-chair of Northwest Valley Indivisible. “Mocking another nation’s sovereignty, joking about how ‘easy’ it would be to take land, and doing so at an event hosted by a group reported to have white nationalist ties betrays core American values. Democracy rests on consent. The rule of law restrains power. Treating either as a joke is disqualifying.”
Peak continued, “American leadership has never meant conquest, intimidation, or laughing alongside extremism. It means rejecting those impulses outright. When an elected official appears comfortable in that environment, the public has a right to demand accountability.”
Northwest Valley Indivisible calls on Rep. Hamadeh to clearly and unequivocally:
- affirm respect for international law and democratic self-determination, and
- repudiate extremist organizations and ideologies, including those reported to have hosted this event.
