Hundreds Expected in Surprise to Protest DHS Warehouse Purchase: “No ICE Facility in Surprise”

Surprise, AZ — Northwest Valley Indivisible will hold its weekly peaceful protest this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. following multiple media reports that the Department of Homeland Security has purchased a massive warehouse in Surprise, Arizona — roughly the size of seven football fields — raising concerns it could be used for ICE processing or detention.

DHS has confirmed the purchase but has declined to clearly state the facility’s purpose. National reporting shows a broader federal push to expand ICE detention and processing capacity through large warehouse-style sites. Northwest Valley Indivisible is unequivocally opposed to any ICE detention or mass-processing facility in the northwest Valley.

“Our message is simple: No ICE facility in Surprise,” said Brent Peak, co-chair of Northwest Valley Indivisible. “ICE cruelty has become normalized, and the Trump administration has failed to protect basic civil and human rights. Expansion without reform must stop.”

Peak added that the protest is not about immigration enforcement in principle, but about a documented pattern of secrecy, abuse, and lack of accountability. “This facility is part of a system that cannot be trusted to police itself. Communities have a responsibility to draw clear lines before harm occurs.”

Organizers are already coordinating with the Surprise Police Department for the safety of participants and the community. The protest will be peaceful and nonviolent, with no weapons allowed. Participants will call for transparency, an end to ICE cruelty, and a top-to-bottom overhaul of ICE — starting with rejecting the new facility in Surprise.

Organizers also urged the public to mark their calendars for the next No Kings protest on March 28th.
