PEORIA, AZ — This morning, dozens of local residents gathered outside Sunrise Mountain Library for a peaceful protest and community letter drop organized by Northwest Valley Indivisible. The event was planned to coincide with Congressman Abe Hamadeh’s scheduled mobile office hours—where his staff was expected to meet with constituents seeking help with federal agencies.
They never showed up.
From 9 a.m. to noon, the room Hamadeh’s office had reserved sat empty. Constituents were left with no support, no answers, and no access—just an empty room and a broken promise.
Meanwhile, back in Washington, Congressman Hamadeh was present for a vote on the controversial H.R. 1 bill. The bill, which passed during the protest, slashes millions of dollars from Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs—cuts that directly harm the same Arizonans he failed to serve today.
“We had over 45 people protesting and dozens writing personal letters to their Congressman,” said Brent Peak, an organizer with Northwest Valley Indivisible. “Some people drove in just to drop off a letter. Others stopped on their way into the library. The message was clear: we showed up. But Hamadeh didn’t even send staff to listen.”

Dozens of handwritten letters were collected and will be delivered to Hamadeh’s office next week, regardless of whether his office is willing to listen.
This isn’t the first time Hamadeh has been missing in action when his constituents came calling. But today’s absence—paired with his vote to rip vital services away from families, children, and seniors—underscores a growing pattern of disregard for the people he was elected to serve and represent.
Northwest Valley Indivisible will continue organizing and showing up. Because elected officials don’t get to disappear on the job and expect no one to notice. And they don’t get to cut services without answering to the people they’re supposed to serve.
The constituents showed up. The Congressman didn’t. That says everything.
Northwest Valley Indivisible extends our sincere gratitude to the staff of the Sunrise Mountain Library for their professional support in upholding our First Amendment rights and creating a welcoming environment for civic engagement.
